Orange Spain partnered with Ericsson and musicians from the Reina Sofia School of Music to conduct a trial of 5G technology in central Madrid in the presence of mayor Jose Luis Martinez Almeida and regional president Isabel Diaz Ayuso. The demonstration carried out in front of the city’s opera house saw musicians located in different parts of Madrid playing simultaneously to showcase the high-speed, reliability and ultra-low latency of Orange’s 5G commercial network and Ericsson’s technology.
Orange said one performance was given by a pianist located in a marquee in Plaza de Isabel II accompanied by a violinist and accordionist located in the operator’s store in Puerta del Sol. Songs were then performed by a mezzo-soprano in the marquee and a tenor in the Orange store.
The operator has invested over EUR 300 million in the rollout of its 4G and 5G networks in the Spanish capital, with the latter set to reach 63 percent coverage of the local population by the end of the year.
