Telenor and Telia have chosen Nokia as the new partner to run their joint mobile network in Denmark, known as the TT network. From October, Nokia will take over operational management and development of the radio access network for the operators. Nokia was already the supplier of the Single RAN.
New management, including CEO Carsten Bryder, took over at TT Network in June to lead the next phase of the joint venture. They will focus on expanding network capacity, improving individual customer experience and introducing new technologies, the operators said.
The TT network is a 50-50 joint venture and counts over 4,000 mobile sites around Denmark. No financial details of the new contract were disclosed.
Telenor Denmark announced separately a restructuring leading to 54 employees being laid off and another 31 open jobs eliminated. At the same time, the company said it plans to add 19 new positions as part of an increased focus on customer service and experience. The operator said the changes will help increase cost efficiency and increase synergies between different business departments.
The news comes almost two years after Telia and Telenor abandoned plans to merge fully their Danish operations, following regulatory opposition to the proposal.
