Belgian mobile market shows quarterly growth of 4.2%

Belgain mobile operators generated service revenues of EUR 908 million in the second quarter, down 4.4 percent from a year earlier, but up 4.2 percent from the first quarter of 2011, according to a report from Telecompaper. Telenet, Tecteo win 4th mobile operator licence in Belgium

The consortium of cable operators Telenet and Tecteo (Voo) has won Belgium's fourth 3G licence for EUR 71.5 million. Telenet Tecteo Bidco was the only bidder for the licence, which also gives an option on GSM spectrum. The bid matches the minimum price for the licence and will be paid in annual instalments over the life of the licence, which runs to March 2021. The consortium will have a total 2x14.8 MHz in the 2.1 GHz band. It also plans to use the call option for 2x4.8 MHz in the 900 MHz band and 2x10 MHz

Belgian mobile market down 5.7% in Q1

The Belgian mobile market generated service revenues of EUR 872 million in the first quarter, down 5.7 percent from the year-earlier period and 4.2 percent less than in Q4 2010. According to Telecompaper's latest quarterly report, the weak growth in data services was not enough to offset the drop in voice revenues from cuts to termination and roaming rates.
