Lycamobile appeals Belgian fine over prepaid credit refunds

Lycamobile has appealed against a fine imposed by the Belgian regulator for failure to refund promptly prepaid credit to customers porting away from the MVNO. Lyca said customers can request a refund via a specific web page or email, and this was available well before the Bipt signalled problems with the process in early 2025. As a result, the company has asked the appeals court to overturn the EUR 280,000 fine imposed in August this year.

Lycamobile fined in Belgium over prepaid credit refunds

Lycamobile has received another fine from the Belgian regulator Bipt, for not refunding prepaid customers their remaining credit when they leave the operator. Customers were not provided with sufficient information or opportunity to claim back the credit, and Lycamobile will pay a fine of EUR 280,000 as a result.

Mobile Vikings turnover up 21% in 2024

Belgian provider Mobile Vikings saw its revenues increase by more than a fifth in 2024, to EUR 92 million, thanks to strong demand for its mobile and fixed broadband services. The Proximus subsidiary saw EBITDA increase 4 percent to EUR 6.5 million, and the net profit was up 8.5 percent to EUR 6 million, according to its recently filed annual report published in Belgium's official gazette.

Omzet Mobile Vikings groeit 21% in 2024 naar EUR 92 miljoen

In 2024 zag Proximus-dochter Mobile Vikings de omzet groeien met 21,1 procent naar EUR 92,3 miljoen. De groei komt door het commerciële succes van vast internet en mobiel. Dit blijkt uit het jaarverslag dat Mobile Vikings heeft gedeponeerd bij het Staatsblad. De operationele winst daalde met 2,1 procent naar EUR 6,7 miljoen door gestegen bedrijfskosten vanwege de klantengroei en de nettowinst kwam uit EUR 6,2 miljoen 8,5 procent meer dan in 2023.

United Telecom declared bankrupt

Belgian virtual operator United Telecom has gone bankrupt, according to the consumer group Test Aankoop/Test Achats. It made the news public after customers at United and its subsidiary Ello Mobile reported problems with services.

United Telecom en Ello Mobile failliet

De Belgische MVNO's United Telecom en Ello Mobile zijn failliet. Volgens de consumentenorganisatie Testaankoop zijn de faillissementen overgedragen aan een curator die fungeert als contactpersoon. Bij navraag bij de curator werd Testaankoop doorverwezen naar een holding in Rotterdam, die aangaf dat de bestaande contracten verdergezet worden en de betrokken klanten de komende dagen meer informatie ontvangen. Het is niet bekend hoeveel klanten getroffen zijn.

Hello enters business mobile market

Belgian business communications provider Hello has expanded into the mobile market. Known for cloud telephony services, including integration with Microsoft Teams and hybrid meeting rooms, the company now offers a choice of five business mobile plans delivered on the Proximus network. These range in price from EUR 10 to EUR 45 per month, and all include unlimited calls and SMS and a data bundle.

Belgian mobile VO market set to contract as competition heats up

Virtual mobile operators in Belgium are expected to lose customers in the coming years, amid increased competition at the low end of the market. The latest edition of Telecompaper's Belgian Mobile Virtual Operators report shows VOs had around 1.8 million Sims as of Q3 2024, good for 20 percent of the total mobile market.
