Over 60% of Dutch broadband connections over 30 Mbps

The Netherlands showed a strong increase in internet speeds in the first quarter, with 62 percent of households subscribing to packages with 30 Mbps or higher, compared to 46 percent in Q4 2014. The latest market monitor from regulator ACM shows 17 percent had 100 Mbps or higher, only a small increase from the previous quarter, while 45 percent were receiving 30-100 Mbps and 22 percent were at 10-30 Mbps. ACM: 62% huishoudens toegang tot 30 Mbps of meer

In het eerste kwartaal van 2015 had 62 procent van de huishoudens in Nederland de beschikking over vast internet met een snelheid van 30 Mbps of meer. In Q4 2014 was dit nog 46 procent, zo meldt ACM op basis van zijn nieuwste Telecommonitor. Volgens de toezichthouder is deze toename te danken aan de snelheidsverhogingen die aanbieders als KPN en Ziggo hebben doorgevoerd.

Netherlands tops 1 mln broadband connections over 100 Mbps

Investments in fixed networks in the Netherlands rose to EUR 1.697 billion in 2014 from EUR 1.601 billion the previous year, according to the regulator ACM's latest market monitor. The number of broadband connections reached 6.851 million at year-end. This included 2.912 million over DSL. Connections supporting 10-30 Mbps are still the most common, but faster speeds are gaining market share. Ziggo groeit naar 44% van breedbandmarkt

Ziggo is de grootste breedbandaanbieder van Nederland met een marktaandeel van 43,9 procent. Dat blijkt uit Telecompaper's rapport over de Nederlandse breedbandmarkt voor consumenten en SOHO over het eerste kwartaal van 2015. Na afronding van de fusie met UPC bleek Ziggo voor het eerst groter dan KPN, dat met Telfort en XS4ALL een marktaandeel van 40,1 procent had. Tegelijkertijd had KPN wel een beter kwartaalrapport met 35.000 nieuwe breedbandklanten tegenover Ziggo's 10.000.

Cable operator Ziggo became the biggest broadband provider in the Netherlands in the first quarter of 2015, according to the latest research from Telecompaper. After completing its merger with UPC Netherlands, the new Ziggo accounted for 43.9 percent of broadband connections in the country at the end of March.
