Facebook and Hyves are the most downloaded communication applications on smartphones in the Netherlands; about four in ten smartphone users have the apps downloaded on their phones, according to results from Telecompaper's Consumer Panel of March 2011. Other popular communication applications on smartphones include MSN, WhatsApp and Twitter, which have been downloaded by approximately three out of ten users. While downloaded less often, the WhatsApp and Ping applications are more frequently used by smartphone owners than Facebook and Hyves. The most used communication applications, WhatsApp and Ping, also have the highest perceived quality according to their mobile users. Most communication applications are downloaded more often by smartphone users under the age of 30.
