Roaming report February 2015

In January and February 2015 35,000 of Travelling Connect’s most active end-users / frequent flyers were invited to fill out the survey. Over 700 users completed the survey. The results are split according to the travellers’ region of origin: Asia (Pacific), Europe and the Middle East.

The roaming report discusses the following aspects:

  • Information about respondents: (number of leisure and business trips per year; region)
  • Data roaming (on/off and reason; buy roaming packages; first choice mobile connectivity when travelling)
  • Costs (statements about roaming fees; satisfaction of roaming tariffs; searched for tariffs and where found; confident about knowledge roaming; bill shock, worst roaming experience)
  • Provider (statements about (mandatory) service)
  • WiFi (Use public WiFi services; advatages WiFi and mobile data; services used on data while being abroad)

EU proposes new compromise on roaming fair-use allowance

The European Commission and Parliament are nearing a compromise on the proposed 'roam like home' allowance. EU members reach compromise on roaming, net neutrality

The Latvian presidency of the EU has secured a compromise on roaming and net neutrality regulations among EU member states. It can now start negotiations with the European Parliament, which passed a different version of the proposal last year. Over half EU data roaming not charged at Eurotariff

Over half of EU data roaming traffic is not charged at the regulated Eurotariff, according to the latest review of the implementation of roaming regulations by EU regulator Berec. In its report on Q2 and Q3 2014, Berec found that almost 57 percent of data roaming traffic was based on non-regulated rates. Half of travellers OK with higher cost for roaming

Travellers are willing to pay more for mobile roaming; 53 percent say that roaming costs can be a little higher than tariffs in their home country, according to a survey conducted by Travelling Connect and Telecompaper among more than 700 frequent travellers. Balkan countries to more than halve cost of roaming

The price of mobile roaming in the Balkans region will drop from 30 June this year and again in mid-2016, according to an agreement signed by telecommunications sector regulators from Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The new prices were disclosed by the Macedonian regulator AEK in a public consultation and reported by Vecer. Orange Moldova starts roaming promotion

Orange Moldova launched a promotion whereby postpaid customers can activate its roaming service for MDL 100. Customers can also use a credit of up to MDL 300 when roaming and pay back this amount after they return home. They can also set the disconnection limit for their roaming service to MDL 0. Armentel extends roaming service

Operator Armentel, working under the Beeline Armenia brand, has extended its '0 When Roaming' service until 15 June. Calls are free after the first minute, which costs AMD 200, until the tenth minute. From the eleventh, call minutes again call AMD 200 per minute. The service is accessible for all subscribers using roaming services globalwide. Activation of the service is free.

BELARUS 20 FEB 2015

MTS Belarus raises roaming rates

Mobile operator MTS Belarus plans to raise the rates of its international romaing services from 1 March. The rates will be modified taking into account higher costs for operator working with foreign currencies. Agreements on lower roaming rates, concluded by MTS Belarus with Latvian mobile operators LMT, Bite Latvia and Tele2 Latvia, will remain in place.
