Escribano steps down as chairman of Spain's Indra

Spain's state-backed ICT and defence group Indra has announced the resignation of chairman Angel Escribano shortly after his own company Escribano Mechanical and Engineering (EM&E) withdrew from a potential acquisition by Indra due to a conflict of interest. In a letter to the board, Escribano said he was stepping down as he would not allow his continued presence to interfere with the stability of the company.

Canal+ Group has announced the appointment of Anne-Laure Tingry as chief data and AI officer, leading the group's activities in these areas across all markets. Tingry joins the executive committee, reporting directly to Canal+ Group CEO Maxime Saada. Over more than two decades, her career was spent at Orange in several senior roles, most recently as executive director of the Smart Mobility Services business line at Orange Business. She became managing director of Orange Store in France at the start of 2016.

AT&T has sold its wireline network assets in the upper peninsula of Michigan state to local operator UP Fiber. The acquired assets include more than 9,000 miles of network infrastructure, along with related facilities, spanning 40 wire centres. UP Fiber said it will ensure continuity of services for customers while working on a long-term network upgrade project to improve reliability and expand capacity.

Akamai announced that the state of Montana awarded the company a new data communications contract. The German Federal Minister for Digital Transformation and Government Modernisation (BMDS) is offering over EUR 1 billion in subsidies for the expansion of fibre-optic networks in the latest new call for proposals. Spain watchdog proposes free bidirectional commercial calls

Spain's communications watchdog CNMC has proposed a number of measures to boost the transparency of commercial and customer service calls, including using the new 400 prefix and enabling recipients to return the call at no extra cost. In its opinion on new rules put forward by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration, the regulator agreed that using the 400 prefix would make it easier for users to clearly identify the type of call they are receiving or making.

The Kenyan parliament has approved the sale of a 15 percent stake in Safaricom to Vodacom. Intel has agreed to buy back the 49 percent of its factory in Ireland sold to Apollo less than two years ago. Intel agreed to sell the 49 percent in Fab 34 for USD 11.0 billion, and now will buy it back from the investor for USD 14.2 billion. The move underlines the shift in strategy at Intel since its new CEO took over a year ago and a strengthened balance sheet at the chipmaker after attracting other new investors.
