Deutsche Telekom invests in network infrastructure
Deutsche Telekom has outlined plans to build high-performance infrastructure across Germany, with top mobile communications speeds of 150 Mbps. It is also boosting its fixed-line infrastructure with fibre-optic network expansion and vectoring technology, aiming to connect over 24 million households to the fibre network by 2016. Vectoring technology will support speeds of up to 100 Mbps on a large scale. The group is investing over EUR 23 billion in Germany between 2010 and 2015.

In mobile communications, LTE is now available in over 100 German cities, rising to almost 200 by end-2013. The Mobile Data XL tariff will be the first mobile data plan to support the new 150 Mbps maximum speed.

The operator has selected Hamburg as a pilot project to become a 'HotSpot City'. It will be the first German city to be equipped with Wi-Fi technology on a large scale. In the first phase, Deutsche Telekom has equipped the harbour area with the tourist centres around the docks, the fish market and the Altona cruise terminal. This will be followed by the large shopping streets, including Moenckebergstrasse, Jungfernstieg, Gaensemarkt and Grosse Bleichen, then the St. Pauli district and the area around Reeperbahn Street.
