Dutch broadband penetration to reach 90% in 2014
The Dutch broadband market grew by 0.9 percent compared the second quarter of 2010, to reach 6.19 million connections on 30 September 2010, according to Telecompaper's quarterly update on the Dutch broadband market. During the quarter, 52,400 net additions driven by cable (+ 47,500) and FTTH, which off-set the drop of 16,100 DSL connections during the quarter. DSL is still the largest broadband technology with 3.454 million connections, followed by cable with 2.49 million connections and FTTH with 215,000 broadband connections. The FTTH total includes 32,000 subscribers at KPN. At the same time, KPN had 22,000 VDSL (FTTC) customers, representing 0.4 percent of the broadband market. Internet van KPN is still the largest broadband ISP in the Netherlands with 29.4 percent of subscribers, followed by Ziggo with 24.5 percent, UPC with 13.2 percent and Tele2 with 6.9 percent. For the coming four years, Telecompaper expects the Dutch broadband market to grow with a CAGR of 2.4 percent to reach 6.82 million connections in 2014, good for a household penetration of around 90 percent.
