MasMovil confirms Yoigo switch to Orange network
Spanish operator MasMovil has announced that it has reached an agreement for its newly-acquired subsidiary Yoigo to use Orange’s mobile network throughout Spain starting on 01 January 2017. News of the deal comes after Yoigo decided not to renew the three-year network-sharing agreement signed with Telefonica in July 2013, which is due to expire on 31 December.

Under the terms of the national roaming and site sharing agreement, both Yoigo and MasMovil will have access to Orange’s 4G network covering 85 percent of the Spanish territory from next year, with MasMovil able to install its own antennas on Orange-owned sites. MasMovil added that it will be the only operator in Spain with double coverage thanks to the deal with Orange and its access to Yoigo’s own 4G network.

MasMovil also confirmed reports that it had reached an agreement to use Orange’s fibre-optic network in areas not reached by its own network. As a result, MasMovil will now be able to offer convergent services including fibre-optic broadband in the nearly 10 million homes to be covered by Orange’s FTTH network by the end of this year.

MasMovil already has fibre access to around 720,000 households throughout Spain after paying Orange EUR 20 million to acquire fixed broadband assets from Jazztel. In July the companies announced a joint investment in a new FTTH network that would give each company access to 1 million addresses.
