Megafon, Yota conclude agreement on LTE
Russian mobile operator Megafon confirmed an agreement with LTE operator Yota for the joint development of LTE services in Russia. Megafon will act as a MVNO providing LTE services using network equipment from Yota, and Yota will gain access to Megafon's infrastructure to support its network roll-out. Both operators earlier acquired MVNO licences, making the cooperation possible.

Yota, Megafon complete merger

Russian operators Megafon and Yota have completed their merger into a single holding company, reports Tass-Telecom. The holding company Garsdale, combining 100 percent of the shares in Yota and an over 50 percent stake in Megafon, was set up. The operators will continue their operations independently. AF Telecom owns 82 percent in Garsdale, and the remaining 18 percent is held by Teleconet Capital and Russian Technologies, pro rata for their stakes in Yota.

Russian operators MTS, Megafon, Beeline and Rostelecom have won licences in the tender to provide LTE services nationwide. Russian mobile operator Megafon launched its LTE services in Krasnodar. The operator offers the Megafon E392 modem supporting LTE, 3G and GSM services for RUB 2,990 in its stores. Customers will receive free mobile internet services until 30 June when purchasing the device.

AF Telecom, the holding company of Russian businessman Alisher Usmanov, and the shareholders of the LTE/Wimax operator Scartel signed a preliminary agreement to create a joint venture, reports Vedomosti. Russian national operator Rostelecom has signed an agreement with the operator Scartel, working under the Yota brand, on the launch of a MVNO. Rostelecom will use Yota's LTE network in the 2,500-2,530 MHz and 2,620-2,650 MHz bands for MVNO services. Testing is planned to star in July. Rostelecom plans to launch commercial services in the Moscow region in September and in other regions later. Rostelecom plans to offer end-user devices under its own brand.

An agreement has already been reached, according to some industry sources, while other sources report negotiations are still ongoing.
