Myanmar has invited the foreign operators to create a privately run partnership with MPT’s telecoms arm, separate from the company’s existing regulatory function, the report said. Orange and Vodafone have been approached, along with other companies including Singapore’s SingTel. There is no indication of how many partners the government is seeking, nor have companies been provided with any details of MPT’s finances, one informed person said. "It is not even clear whether they want an equity partner or a technical partner," he added.

Vodafone and Orange are among a group of leading operators invited by the Myanmar government to team up with the state Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications mobile operator, people familiar with the matter told the Financial Times. Both companies earlier bid for one of the two new mobile licences in country, but were not successful in the tender.
