South Korea plans to invest KRW 220 billion (approximately USD 195 million) to develop and standardize 6G network technology by 2025 and conduct joint research on 6G services with the US, Yonhap news agency reports. 6G services are expected to be commercially launched in 2028.
South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT announced it has earmarked around KRW 200 billion until 2025 to develop core 6G technology, such as integrating satellite networks and terrestrial networks to power telecommunications for future flying vehicles and drones.
South Korea plans to launch 14 low Earth orbit satellites by 2031 to test 6G technology.
6G research partnership with US
South Korea's Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the US National Science Foundation to conduct joint research in 6G technologies.
