Telenor Myanmar to launch by September
Telenor said it plans to launch services in Myanmar in the current quarter. The first call on its new network there was made in April and a friendly user test was launched in June. The company invested NOK 275 million in the country in the second quarter in preparation for the launch and incurred a NOK 86 million operating loss there. Opex and capex are expected to increase as the operation will ramp up its marketing activities and continue network expansion, Telenor said. The operator is one of two companies licensed last year to build new mobile networks in the country.

Telenor Myanmar added 543,000 new subscriptions during the first quarter ended 31 March 2017. The operator ended March with 18.8 million subscribers, up 22 percent year-on-year. Telenor uncovers child labour at Myanmar network suppliers

Telenor has discovered child labour at suppliers helping it build Myanmar's first national mobile phone network, the Financial Tiimes reported on its website, citing Telenor's sustainability reported. The company said it had identified five cases involving young people aged 12 to 14, plus another nineteen confirmed or suspected instances of teenagers of between 15 and 18 working in potentially hazardous construction jobs.

Ooredoo has officially launched its mobile services in Myanmar. Ooredoo rolled out a new network using UMTS900 technology, which offers customers in Myanmar a 3G service. Telenor improves FY margin outlook

Telenor improved its full year outlook, saying it now expects a higher EBITDA margin this year. In the second quarter, the margin improved to 35.9 percent from 34.4 a year ago, and the figure was up 1.3 percent points over the first half of 2014.
