
Canadian cable operator Videotron has launched a new brand called Fizz to target younger customers. The company also plans to introduce its own voice-controlled smart home hub called Helix, announced CEO Manon Brouillette in a speech at the Canadian Club of Montreal.
Focused on mobile services, Fizz promises a "community" for its customers, with a "100% digital experience focused on simplicity, independence and sharing", Videotron said. It's currently in a three-month beta period with initial testers, offering a range of customisable mobile plans. Fizz was developed "to win the hearts of Generation Z and millennials, who have decidedly different needs and behaviours," the CEO said.
Brouillette said the the company is also developing its own smart home hub with a voice-controlled digital assistant. Branded Helix and to be unveiled "soon", Helix is "ready to compete with the international tech giants while staying true to our DNA and being relevant to the lives of increasingly connected households across Quebec", the CEO said. Helix will deliver smarter and more powerful Wi-Fi, an enhanced TV experience thanks to IP technology and seamless integration of web content platforms, and home automation services.
