Belgian competition watchdog confirms investigation into Proximus, Telenet fibre alliance

The Belgian Competition Authority has confirmed it's opening an investigation into the proposed cooperation between Proximus and Telenet on rolling out FTTH in Flanders. The regulator said it look at whether the alliance will have a negative impact on market competition and if the expected benefits from the cooperation can be passed on to end-users.

BMA start onderzoek naar beoogde FTTH-samenwerking Proximus en Telenet

De Belgische Mededingingsautoriteit (BMA) stelt een onderzoek in naar de beoogde uitrol van het Vlaamse glasvezelnetwerk door Proximus en Telenet, samen met hun netwerkinfrastructuurondernemingen Fiberklaar en Wyre. Het onderzoek zal nagaan of het voorgestelde samenwerkingsproject een ongunstig effect kan hebben op de mededinging tussen de aanbieders van telecommunicatiediensten.

Belgian gigabit internet connections up 59% in 2023

Belgian reached 295,000 fixed internet connections with speeds of at least 1 Gbps in 2023, an increase of 59 percent from the previous year. Over half of those were still on coax cable networks, despite a strong increase in FTTH coverage, the data from regulator Bipt shows.

Belgische mobiele markt koelt af in Q1: omzet uit diensten daalt met 1%

In het eerste kwartaal van dit jaar was er sprake van een vertraging op de Belgische mobiele markt, met een daling van de omzet uit diensten van bijna 1 procent op jaarbasis. De daling werd geleid door Telenet, dat al enkele kwartalen klanten verliest, terwijl Orange en Proximus ook een tragere groei vertoonden, zo blijkt uit het meest recente onderzoek van Telecompaper. Belgian mobile market cools off in Q1 with 1% fall in service revenues

The Belgian mobile market showed a slowdown in the first quarter, with service revenues falling almost 1 percent year-on-year. The decline was led by Telenet, which has been losing customers for several quarters, while Orange and Proximus also showed slower growth, the latest research by Telecompaper shows. Growth may remain muted in the period ahead as operators prepare for the entry of a new player later this year, Digi.

Het genereren van vrije kasstroom is voor de grote Belgische operatoren momenteel een zware opgave. Prijsverhogingen geven steun maar er moet veel geïnvesteerd worden in glasvezel.
