Wrap-up video market: new streaming services to accelerate cord-cutting

The top three players in the Netherlands lost a net 10,000 TV customers in the first quarter. While some may have switched to smaller providers, cord-cutting is also having an impact on the Dutch market, albeit on a small scale still. At the same time, Netflix and Amazon continue to grow, thanks to partnerships with a growing number of providers. With more OTT services planned to launch in the coming months, we expect the rate of cord-cutting to increase.

De Nederlandse top 3 heeft in Q1 2019 gezamenlijk 10.000 televisieklanten verloren. Enerzijds komen deze klanten terecht bij kleinere aanbieders, anderzijds laat het zien dat het zogenoemde 'cord cutting' ook in Nederland optreedt, zij het nog op beperkte schaal. Intussen houdt de groei bij Netflix aan en Amazon volgt Netflix door met een groeiend aantal operators samen te werken. Meer diensten zijn in voorbereiding en wij verwachten dat dit na 2019 impact zal hebben op het tempo van cord cutting.

Dutch TV and OTT market lifts 3.8% in Q4

The total video market in the Netherlands grew by 3.8 percent in the fourth quarter to EUR 568 million, a slowdown compared to past quarters, according to the most recent Telecompaper report on the Dutch TV-Video Market for the fourth quarter of 2018. The traditional TV market lifted 1.6 percent to EUR 471 while the OTT market rose 16 percent to EUR 97.0 million.

Groei gecombineerde TV/OTT-markt Nederland viel in Q4 terug naar 3,8%

De totale videomarkt in Nederland is in het vierde kwartaal met 3,8 procent gegroeid tot EUR 568 miljoen. Daarmee valt de groei flink terug. De traditionele tv-markt had een omvang van EUR 471 miljoen (+1,6%) en de OTT-markt was goed voor EUR 97,0 miljoen (+16%). Dat zijn de belangrijkste conclusies uit het recente Telecompaper-rapport Dutch TV-Video Market 2018 Q4.

Dutch TV market falls 0.3% to 7.45 mln connections, revenues up 1.8% in 2018

The number of TV connections in Dutch households fell by 25,000, or about 0.3 percent, in 2018, to 7.454 million, according to the latest Telecompaper report about the Dutch TV market. In 2017, the decrease had been around 10,000 connections. By contrast, revenues from TV services increased in the past year, by 1.8 percent to EUR 1.872 billion. This was partly because of price increases at KPN, Delta, Caiway and Ziggo.

Nederlandse tv-markt daalt 0,3% naar 7,45 miljoen aansluitingen, omzet stijgt 1,8% in 2018

Het aantal tv-aansluitingen bij Nederlandse huishoudens is in 2018 gedaald met 0,3 procent, ofwel -25.000, naar 7,454 miljoen. In 2017 bleef de daling nog beperkt tot 10.000 aansluitingen, aldus het meest recente kwartaalrapport van Telecompaper over de Nederlandse tv-markt. De omzet uit tv-diensten groeide juist het afgelopen jaar: met 1,8 procent naar EUR 1,872 miljard. Dat was onder meer het gevolg van prijsverhogingen van KPN, Delta, Caiway en Ziggo.

More NLziet customers using service as primary TV connection

Dutch streaming platform NLziet said that more customers see its services as their primary TV service. The company made the statement based on research performed on its own clientele. According to the study, over a third (36%) have no fixed TV connection in addition to NLziet. This compares to 21 percent at the start of 2017. The number of customers with a fixed TV connection is low, especially in the 26-35 target group. Just over half (51%) of customers in this target group no longer have a fixed TV connec

NLziet signaleert daling in het aantal vaste tv-aansluitingen onder klanten

NLziet concludeert op basis van onderzoek binnen zijn klantenkring dat steeds meer klanten NLziet als primaire tv-dienst gebruiken. Volgens NLziet heeft 36 procent van de kijkers naast NLziet geen vaste tv-aansluiting meer. Dit was begin 2017 nog slechts 21 procent. Vooral in de doelgroep 26 tot 35 jaar is het aantal klanten met een vaste tv-aansluiting laag. Volgens NLziet heeft in deze doelgroep 51 procent van de klanten geen vaste tv-aansluiting meer.

KPN launches smart TV app for IPTV service

KPN has launched a smart TV app. The app is designed for use in second rooms for customers with a TV subscription to watch the IPTV service without the need for another set-top box or internet connection. It works to start on Samsung smart TVs from 2017 or newer.

More Dutch households planning to cancel pay-TV - survey

Nearly one in ten Dutch households (9%) expect to cancel their pay-TV subscription within the next two years, according to research by Telecompaper. Four percent expect to cut the cord already in the next 12 months, the survey in January found. That's up from 3 percent in August 2018.

In week 11 bedroeg de gemiddelde kijktijd naar televisiezenders over de gehele dag 169 minuten. De TV Schermtijd bedroeg in week 11 over de gehele dag 206 minuten. Een week later bedroeg de gemiddelde kijktijd naar televisiezenders over de gehele dag 153 minuten. De TV Schermtijd bedroeg in week 12 over de gehele dag 187 minuten. Dat maakt SKO bekend.
