EU Mobile Benchmark 2018-Q1

This EU Mobile Benchmark report compares and analyses over 1,400 mobile packages across 16 countries European countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and UK.

The report is intended for all those who need to know about pricing levels across Western Europe and those who want to know how their country is faring compared to others.

The analysis is based on the following:

• Postpaid subscription plans from all MNOs in the 16 European countries and most of the MNO-owned sub-brands.
• Resulting in a comparison of 1,433 plans from 71 operators in 16 countries.
• Data was collected during January - March 2018 from the providers' websites.
• A matrix was built based on ranges of monthly minutes and MBs offered.
• SMS has been excluded, as the majority of plans already offered (near) unlimited SMS.

Comparing the total cost of ownership (TCO) is central to our approach, in order to include all elements constituting the cost of consumer communications. The (hidden) cost of a handset is among the most important aspects that need to be included in the TCO. In this edition we have focused on the Samsung Galaxy S8, as well as the Sim-only plans. The TCO also incorporates all monthly subscription or connection costs, promotional discounts and is adjusted for differences in purchasing power across the 16 countries. In addition to the median TCO, the report also analyses the lowest available price plans.

New in this edition is the inclusion of an analysis of fixed-mobile convergence advantages. These advantages may include a discount on the mobile or fixed MAF or extras such as more data or access to certain TV channels.

The report is accompanied for corporate users by the excel, covering all the packages used in the analysis with the following details: name provider, name plan, type of plan, contract duration, which handset included, monthly price, promotional price, duration of promotion, calculated TCO in EUR and EUR PPP, set-up costs, cost of handset, number of minutes, SMS and MBs included. This report edition provides data and analysis of the high-end smartphone and Sim-only choices.
